Registration:

 The COTNS is the governing body responsible for regulating the practice of occupational therapy in Nova Scotia.

Occupational therapists MUST be registered with the college in order to legally practice and use the title "occupational therapist" or "OT" in Nova Scotia. Failure to register is an offence and can result in disciplinary action and/or fines.

Important Information:

      • Registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Nova Scotia (COTNS) is mandatory for all practicing occupational therapists in the province of Nova Scotia.
      • You may not begin working as an occupational therapist in Nova Scotia until you have received notification from the COTNS that your application has been approved.
      • Once approved, applicants will be mailed a certificate of registration and licence entitling the practice of occupational therapy.
      • Completed applications require a minimum of 10 business days to be processed. Incomplete applications will be returned.
      • For New Graduates, all components of your occupational therapy degree, including your final fieldwork placement, must be sucessfully completed before you can be considered for registration.
      • Renewal with COTNS occurs annually, with the annual registration renewal date being the 15th of May of each year.
